Present perfect

Have / has + past participle, for experiences and for the past that still matters now.

I / you / we / theyhe / she / it
+I have workedShe has worked
−I haven't workedShe hasn't worked
?Have you worked?Has she worked?

Participle: regular verbs add -ed (worked) · Irregular: be → been · go → gone · see → seen · do → done · write → written

A2

Have / has + past participle

New

Use have with I / you / we / they and has with he / she / it, then the past participle (worked, been, seen). Have з I / you / we / they, has з he / she / it, далі третя форма дієслова (worked, been, seen).

subject+ have / has+ past participle

  • I have finished my homework.
  • She has seen that film.
  • She have seen that film.
  • She has seen that film.

В англійській have / has обов'язкове: I have finished.

Life experiences: ever and never

New

Use the present perfect for experiences up to now, when the exact time is not important. Ask with ever and answer with never. Питаємо з ever, відповідаємо never.

subject+ have / has+ ever / never+ past participle

  • Have you ever been to Italy?
  • I have never eaten sushi.
  • I never have eaten sushi.
  • I have never eaten sushi.

For and since

New

Use for with a period of time and since with the starting point. The present perfect shows that the situation continues now.

subject+ have / has + participle+ for / since+ time

  • I have lived here for five years.
  • She has worked here since 2020.
  • I live here for five years.
  • I have lived here for five years.

Англійською з for / since потрібне present perfect: I have lived here for five years.

Just, already and yet

New

Use just for something that happened a moment ago and already for something done earlier than expected. Use yet in questions and negatives, at the end.

subject+ have / has+ just / already+ past participle+ yet

  • I have just seen him.
  • She hasn't called me yet.
  • I haven't finished my homework already.
  • I haven't finished my homework yet.

Present perfect or past simple?

New

Use the past simple with a finished time (yesterday, in 2019, last week). Use the present perfect when the time is not given or the result matters now. З точним часом у минулому (yesterday, in 2019, last week) — past simple.

subject+ have / has + participle+ no finished time

  • I have lost my keys.
  • I lost my keys yesterday.
  • I have seen him yesterday.
  • I saw him yesterday.

В англійській вчора, торік, у 2019 році — тільки past simple: I lost my keys yesterday.

The best … I have ever …

New

Use a superlative with the present perfect and ever for something unique in your experience.

it / this+ is the + superlative + noun+ I have ever+ past participle

  • It's the best film I have ever seen.
  • This is the worst coffee I've ever had.
  • It's the best film I've ever saw.
  • It's the best film I've ever seen.

Англійською після the best / the worst потрібне present perfect: the best film I have ever seen.
