Adjective: describes a noun

An adjective tells us more about a noun: a big house, a cold day. It comes before a noun or after be. Прикметник розповідає більше про іменник: a big house, a cold day. Він стоїть перед іменником або після be.

Clues: place and ending

The place in the sentence helps: a noun follows the or a, a verb follows the subject. The ending helps too: -tion and -ness make nouns, -ful and -ous make adjectives, -ly makes adverbs. Допомагає місце в реченні: іменник іде після the або a, дієслово — після підмета. Допомагає й закінчення: -tion і -ness дають іменники, -ful і -ous — прикметники, -ly — прислівники.

the / a noun subject verb

Examples

  • The decision was difficult.
    Рішення було складним.
Why: Decision іде після the й закінчується на -sion: іменник.
